Award-Winning Bluesman with a Raw Roots Style
Trance Blues is the name that Otis Taylor applies to his own personal brand of roots music. He relies on a blues groove that he lays down himself on guitar, mandolin, or banjo. Taylor's focus on intensely charged songwriting subject matter has earned him critical attention - Downbeat magazine has recognized his efforts by awarding him Blues Album of the year two consecutive years, and the W.C. Handy Blues Awards crowned him their Best New Artist.
While his recordings have garnered numerous awards and nominations, as a live act Otis has most recently toured with Gary Moore in the United Kingdom and Europe. His songs, built on mantra-like blues vamps, have been well-received by audiences the world over, including festival-oriented venues. Through it all, Otis Taylor's focus remains firmly on writing original songs that come to life through his highly personal guitar style.
After learning guitar as a child, and forming bands as a teen, Taylor took a long hiatus from blues music only to return in the late 1990's and make his artistic mark. With that time away came emotion, history, and intensity that he has channeled into a prolific catalog of seminal modern blues albums. Otis Taylor embodies the blues and will take the art form forward into the future.
Otis Taylor plays a Category 5 Ivan 2 x 10 combo amplifier, which he has been using to record his upcoming album.
