Tab Benoit

Louisiana Blues Master

2006 Grammy Nominee, Louisiana Wetlands Activist, Cajun Roots Musician Tab Benoit won the 2006 Blues Music Association’s “B.B. King’s Entertainer of the Year” and “Best Male Contemporary Blues” awards. These awards were received at the same time that his staring role in Imax Picture’s “Hurricane on the Bayou” was garnishing positive attention from many critics and new found fans across the US.

Today Tab Benoit through his organization “Voice of the Wetlands” continues his hard efforts promoting Louisiana’s music and culture and has made it his personal mission to bring attention to the erosion problem that South Louisiana’s wetlands suffer.

Tab Benoit reflects everything that has made him who he is through his music. His passion for the roots and his surroundings, as well as the respect for the musicians, and styles that have come before him is forever present in his own style.

Guitar Player magazine refers to Tab as the “Cajun Roots Guitarist” mostly due to his original style that separates him from any other guitar player. The traditional style’s that Tab draws from is comes from the music that he grew up with , the sounds which are indigenous to South Louisiana including Cajun, Blues, Zydeco, Rhythm and Blues, Swamp Pop, and Rock.

In the late 70’s soul rock band Louisiana Leroux was the backing band for the late bluesman Gate Mouth Brown. In the early 80’s the band left Gate Mouth and had a string of MTV Hits. Addicted, New Orleans Ladies, Nobody Said It Was Easy, Carries Gone, Take A Ride On A Riverboat, and Snake Eyes launched Louisiana Leroux into a category that even today is unmatched by any Louisiana band.

In 2005, Leroux and Tab Benoit recorded the “Brother to the Blues” CD and were nominated for a Grammy for their efforts in 2006. The same year, Tab and Leroux returned to the studio to record “Power of the Ponchartrain” which critics are calling his best work to date.

For the remainder of 2007 of the year the Grammy team of Tab Benoit and Louisiana Leroux’s bassist Leon Medica and drummer David Peters will be performing shows from coast to coast. Music fans will finally get a chance to witness for themselves the deep Louisiana groove and the new recording that is the buzz of the blues world.
